The CRB is changing

On 1 December 2012, CRB is merging with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) to become the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The DBS will provide a joined up service to combine the criminal records and barring functions. The service and processes currently provided by the CRB are not changing as a result of the merger. They will continue to deliver their services as normal throughout this transition.

There will of course be a rebranding exercise and this will include the introduction of the new DBS logo, and there will be small changes to the certificate. All existing disclosures with the CRB name and logo will still be valid

Positive Feedback from Parents

We do appreciate feedback from pupils who have found their tutor via Personal Tutors. Below are just a few of the very positive comments sent to us over the last year:

"Please accept my congratulations on your network of tutors. I am extremely pleased with the work done by Mr **** one of your English tutors in Aberdeen. He was able to instil in my grandson the rudiments of the English language. I will have no hesitation in recommending your service to my friends."

"Mrs **** has been an excellent tutor throughout and I wish to thank you for finding us such a gem! Julie has improved so much of late that she now has every confidence in continuing her English coursework alone."

"The most difficult part of the process has been in choosing a tutor, and this was only because they were all very good and very nice."

"Thank you for your prompt and efficient service. It was so simple, I wish we had found you sooner."

"Very efficient - congratulations - topped the competition easily - will recommend you!"

Please do get in touch.  We love hearing from you!

Why look at tuition for my child?

As a parent you may choose private tuition to enable a child who has fallen behind to catch up, to learn a subject of interest outside the school environment, or to stretch your child further or give closer attention to the needs of your child than is possible in the classroom. Tutoring can raise levels of school performance, help a child to increase their confidence, enjoyment and motivation in a subject and develop study skills and discipline that can be applied across a number of subjects.

If you are curious to see whether there are tutors available in your area, simply take a look at the student form on our website. It is very easy to use -- you will be prompted to enter your postcode and by selecting the subject and level of tuition you are looking for, you will be provided with a list of profiles for local tutors we have available and where they are based in your area. We cover the whole of mainland Britain.

If you feel any of these tutors meet with your requirements, select them by ticking the relevant boxes (you may select and receive information for upto 6 tutors) and after confirming your contact details you may submit your enquiry. You will then receive the tutors full contact details and will be able to contact them, or them you, to discuss the specifics of the tuition required.

We cover the following subjects at all levels; primary, lower secondary, GCSE, AS level and A level ......and beyond

Maths

English

General Science

Combined Science

Biology

Chemistry

Physics

French

German

Computer Studies/Information Technology

Geography

History

Feel free to take a look to see who's available in your area!

Tuition over the summer break. No, really.

The last thing any child would want to do during the Summer holidays is learn and for most children a few weeks playing in the sun... or rain...  after a long school year is the best thing for them.

Some children who have been falling behind in school or are moving up into an important year, may benefit from a little bit of learning and revision.  It can certainly be a good thing to keep brains active and be prepared for the new term.

Tutoring can help your child reach their potential; visit www.personal-tutors.co.uk for a free list of local tutors in your area or call 0161-428 2285 to discuss your requirements.

A little bit about us.....

We thought that you might like to know some details of how we work, the way that we select tutors for our register and how we ensure that you will receive the best possible service.

Personal Tutors has been in business since 1970. We are proud to display our address and full contact details on our site. Other companies may hide behind P.O. Box numbers and email addresses.

We only recruit tutors who can satisfy our strict requirements in terms of qualification and character. We only accept tutors whose minimum qualification is a degree and most are teachers, lecturers or professional tutors.

All new tutors who join us must have an Enhanced CRB Disclosure. If they do not have one, as a Registered Body with the CRB, we can obtain one for them. If a tutor already has a Disclosure we insist on seeing the original document -- it is the checking of the security features and contents of the document (not to mention any additional information provided by the police but not contained in the disclosure) by a responsible company which is important. Some other businesses do not bother to check.

When applying to register as a tutor we insist that all new tutors supply details of two referees who can vouch for their moral character and their experience and qualifications. The referees must be people in positions of responsibility, employers, head teachers, heads of department etc., and we contact these referees by post as emailed references can easily be fraudulent. Some other companies either take no references at all or rely on pre-written ones which could have been composed by the tutor themself.

In order to supply our pupils with the best possible service, we continuously monitor the performance of our tutors and any that do not satisfy our exacting standards are removed from our Register. When a pupil begins tuition, we do not ask that they pay in advance for a set number of lessons but simply work on a lesson by lesson basis in co-operation with the tutor.

You are able to call Personal Tutors 24 hours a day on 0161 428 2285, or visit www.personal-tutors.co.uk and follow the link for a free list of local tutors in your area.

Registering as a Tutor

The service is FREE to tutors.

We are the oldest, established 1970, and largest of the UK tuition agencies and we receive many requests for tutors from past clients as well as from current advertising.

In recent years many tutors have received an average of more than 50 introductions each and those offering popular subjects such as Maths and English received substantially more.

If you do not have a CRB Enhanced Disclosure, then as a Registered Body with the CRB we can help in obtaining one for you.  To maintain the excellent reputation of the agency, Personal Tutors only accept applications from tutors who are graduates or teachers.

Please do apply using this link or to speak to us, please call 0161 428 2277 or  0161 428 2285.
